The Department of Political Science runs the B.Sc. Political Science and B.Sc. International Relations programmes.
Given the aspiration of producing competent and confident graduate students whose minds are well developed and who are intellectually sound in the field of politics, the cardinal principles of the Department thus become labour, service and integrity, delivered in most socially relevant manner that will guarantee global stability, national and regional prosperity.

Philosophy
The study of Political science provides insights into the activities and behaviour of human beings in their political environment and social settings. This is achievable through the teaching and studying of theories and praxis of politics. In this wise, the various courses of study are directed towards exposing the students to the theory and practice of politics in all ramifications, from local level to the national and international level. The discipline thus elicit the understanding of politics as a universal practice, with restriction to no particular level of human formation.

Objectives
The major objectives of a Bachelor’s degree programme in the Department are to:
- Produce graduates who are well focused and articulate in the various spheres of politics and international relations;
- Train graduates who are well groomed with in-depth knowledge and skills in both Political Science and International Relations for understanding, analysing and solving problems involving socio-political and relational issues at organizational, local, national and international levels;
- Equip graduates with human relation skills, exhibiting the best of character in the society and capable of leading the contemporary world in all field of human endeavour, particularly in the field of politics and relations amongst or between states
- Assist the students in developing the virtue of hard work, creative thinking, originality of ideas, critical enquiry into norms and values with innovative, creativity and ability to administer their own private activities and businesses as entrepreneurs at graduation;
- Expose students to the mainstream of political thought, interpretations, concepts, analysis and methodology in the disciplines such that they will be able to make meaningful contributions to the Nigerian, African and global communities; and
- Assist the students in developing and/or enhancing their capacity in the practices of politics and intergovernmental relationships.

Admission Requirements
O'Level Requirements: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in Government or History, English Language and three (3) other subjects. A pass in Mathematics is required.
UTME Subjects: English Language, Government or History plus two (2) other Social Science/Arts subjects
Direct Entry: Minimum of 5 points in GCE A’ level, IJMB/JUPEB or Merit in two (2) in two core subjects in NCE or Upper Credit in ND/HND certificate from recognized institution.
