Kings University was granted a provisional license by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Universities Commission on March 4, 2015, and commenced academic activities on February 1, 2016. However, prior to the commencement of academic activities, an Implementation Committee (IPC) was put in place under the Chairmanship of Prof. Sola Akinrinade, the former and pioneer VC, Osun State University to develop a strategic plan for the institution.
Academic Programmes at Kings University took off at the temporary site of the University located at Km 7 Gbongan - Oshogbo Road, with adequate human, physical and material resources. At inception in 2016, the number of academic and non-academic staff is 67, while the first set of matriculated students were 88. The University has graduated two sets of graduates to date.
As an ICT driven institution with the mission to generate, disseminate, preserve and apply knowledge using Information technology. The University has installed internet and intranet facilities, a fully deployed Learning Management System (KULMS) to support virtual teaching, engagement and also for conducting examinations. The classrooms are fitted with multimedia projectors, and allow the use of multimedia-enabled phones and other electronic devices to encourage mobile learning and beyond the classroom interaction between staff and students. The goal is to enhance holistic education for social, economic, cultural development and self-reliance.
Graduates of Kings University are also imbued with professional and entrepreneurial skills earned through compulsory enrolment for professional programmes such as ICAN, I.T certifications, and also entrepreneurship training in fashion design, production of paints, beads etc., on the campus. This conforms with the University’s vision of raising quality leaders and transforming minds.
