The Management of Kings University, Odeomu in Osun State has announced a plan to collaborate with the OAU’s Africa Centre of Excellence OAK-Park on ICT Innovation and Development.
The Vice-Chancellor of Kings University, Professor Adenike Kuku, made this announcement on Tuesday when she led a team of the University Management staff to pay a courtesy visit to the Africa Centre of Excellence ICT-Driven Knowledge Park (ACE OAK-Park) in Ile Ife.
The ACE OAK-Park is a World Bank sponsored regional hub for ICT education training as well as uptake and commercialization of research and technology to advance the growth of the ICT industry.
Professor Kuku expressed her appreciation to the Centre Director, Professor Adesola Aderounmu for meeting with her team to discuss issues of mutual benefit to both institutions. She stated that Kings University is fully committed to forging a partnership with the OAK-Park in the areas of innovation and research in ICT, postgraduate training and short courses, as well as in entrepreneurship.
In his remarks, Professor Aderounmu highlighted the aims of the Centre which include ensuring systematic incubation of research ideas and products from OAU and other partners Institutions such that the creative/innovative energy of the teeming youths is harnessed into ICT entrepreneurial endeavors using appropriate skill-enhancing training and mentoring.
Aderounmu, a former president of the Nigeria Computer Society added that "the Centre is willing to collaborate with Kings University in the areas of Staff exchange program, opportunities for postgraduate studies and short courses for eligible Kings University staff and students. There is also the entrepreneurship content which includes Internship and incubation programmes for creative and innovative students."
The Kings University team was taken on a facility tour of the ACE OAK-Park, such as the Laboratories, the Teleconferencing room, and the office complex.
Professor Kuku was accompanied on the visit by the Registrar, Ms. Temitayo Olowola, the Bursar, Mr. Adeyinka Adeosun, the Dean, Faculty of Science, Professor M.T Olaleye, the Ag. Director of ICT, Mr. Chris Agbokhese, and the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Dare Adebisi.
Apart from Professor Aderounmu, other officials in the team of the ACE OAK-Park are; the Deputy Centre Director, Professor E.R Adagunodo, Head of Computer Engineering Department, Dr. P.I Idowu, Dr. Mrs. R.I Ikono, Dr. Mrs. Akinyemi, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Engr. T.O Ajayi and the Programme Officer, Veronica Adejoh.
