UTME Entry Requirements

• Credit level passes in 5 subjects including English, Literature-in-English, while the other 3 subjects must be from Arts or Social Sciences related courses
• Acquire the UTME cut off mark

Direct Entry Requirements

• Credit level pass in five (5) subjects in the SSCE/GCE/NECO O/L or their equivalent which must be obtained at not more than two sittings and must include English, Literature-in-English and any other 3 subjects from Arts-related courses
• Minimum of Seven points in GCE advanced level (A-level)/ IJMB/JUPEB or merit in two core subjects at NCE

• Train students to acquire adequate communicative competence in both spoken and written varieties of the English language, giving them a good grounding and effective mastery of the Language in its various applications to achieve adequate self-expression and self-actualisation
• Equip students with the knowledge of forms and features of varieties of English used in different professional domains such as business communication, legal communication, electronic broadcast media, print journalism, advertising, sports commentaries and biography writing;
• Equip students with adequate linguistic knowledge of the English Language through a detailed study of its sound system, its lexicon, its syntax, semantics and usages;

   

• Adequately prepare students to pursue postgraduate studies in English Language, Linguistic and Literature;

   

• Instil in students valuable skills of critical thinking and;

   

• Orientate students towards self-employment with a focus on skills such as writing articles in magazines, speeches, designing and presenting special programs on radio or TV, designing and publishing magazines and creative writing and other kinds of original output through independent thought and creativity.
