DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The Department of Biological Sciences is a leading academic Department in the Faculty of Science. It is one of the pioneer Departments in the Faculty of Science which began operations on February 1, 2016 and runs two academic programmes in the Life Sciences – Biotechnology and Microbiology. These programmes open the academic curricula that are tailored towards the Benchmark Minimum Standards (BMAS) stipulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Department of Biological Sciences is committed to raising new generation of leaders in the Biosciences by active teaching and research as well as community development, in line with the Vision and Mission of Kings University. The academic staff of the faculty are highly motivated and dedicated to the delivery of quality education to the students through strict adherence to well-structured course contents, lecture schedules, and the use of state-of-the-art audio-visual aids for lecture delivery and tutorials.

Admission Requirements

 
Requirements for UTME Candidate

The minimum entry requirement for admission into the Department of Biological Sciences is Credit level pass in five (5) subjects in the SSCE/GCE/NECO O/L which includes English Language, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or their equivalent obtained at not more than two (2) sittings and must also present at least the yearly minimum cut- off mark which will be determined by the University Senate in UTME results. In addition, Kings University conducts screening exercises for all candidates seeking admission into the University

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidate

Credit level pass in five (5) subjects in the SSCE/GCE/NECO O/L or their equivalent which must be obtained at not more than two sittings and must include English, Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and also present a minimum of 7 points in GCE Advance level / IJMB / JUPEB or Merit in two (2) core subjects in NCE or Upper Credit in ND certificate from a recognized Institution.

Laboratories

There are two functional well-equipped laboratories in the Department which are manned by two qualified technologists.
