Guidance and Counselling

This Unit has professional counsellors who are committed to helping students’ growth in self-
understanding in the process of integrating their personal and academic experiences. The
services are free to students and are confidential (i.e. not used as part of his/her other
University records). The services include personal counselling, group counselling, student skills improvement, test anxiety reduction, personal crisis intervention, psychological testing,
career and occupational counselling and settlement of grievances between students. Where
necessary, consultations are made with campus organizations, specialists and academic
Departments, to ensure that students’ problems are resolved satisfactorily. The counsellors can
be contacted at the Unit from Monday to Friday.

Welfare

The welfare of students is of importance to the University. Apart from the University Counselling Unit that handles cases requiring student counselling, the Student Affairs Department operates staff/students’ interactive forum where students are properly guided on all aspects of their academic development. Every student is also allocated a staff adviser, who handles all aspects of students’ academic development. Students with complex cases bothering on emotional and
physical problems are referred to the Student Affairs Unit of the University for appropriate
counselling while those that have health problems are handled by the University Health Centre.
Indigent and brilliant students are also recommended to the appropriate University committee for
consideration for university scholarships.

Sports and Recreation Facilities

The University has facilities for sports and recreation made available for regular use by
students and staff. These include:
i. Football Pitch
ii. Volleyball Court
iii. Indoor Board Games
iv. Table Tennis

Disability support

Kings University regards any student who has a physical or mental impairment that
significantly limits one or more major life activities as been disabled. The disability support
service, which is located under the Registrar, or Student Affairs Department, is to remove
barriers and foster an inclusive environment for all students of the university. Most buildings
in the university including halls of residence, the Library, Administrative building, lecture
rooms and laboratories have access points for disabled students to ease their mobility.
